Smash misses out, but Katharine McPhee sparkles at Golden Globes
“Smash” failed to win a Golden Globe award Sunday night, but star Katharine McPhee made a splash on the red carpet.
McPhee was one of two entertainers with American Idol ties to be nominated for a Golden Globe.
“Smash” was nominated in the Best TV Comedy or Musical category, and the win went to the HBO comedy-drama “Girls.”
Other nominees in the category included “The Big Bang Theory,” “Modern Family” and “Episodes.” “Modern Family” won the same category in 2012.
Earlier today, Katharine tweeted: “Probably had some of the worst sleep in my life… It’s gonna take a village to get me lookin fancy today for the Golden Globes.”
Apparently, the village rallied. Katharine showed up on the red carpet looking dazzling in black and drawing praise from Khloe Kardashian, who tweeted: “Wow Katharine McPhee is STUNNING! Head to toe!!!!”
Now 28, Kat, of course, was Idol’s Season 5 runner-up to Taylor Hicks. She released two albums and appeared in a few movies before landing the role of Karen Cartwright on Smash.
The show will return for its second season at 9 p.m. Feb. 5.
And there’s another reason for Idol fans to watch this season; Jennifer Hudson will appear in a multi-episode guest star role.
Also on hand for Sunday’s awards show were Idol judge Keith Urban and former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez.
Keith co-wrote “For You,” nominated for Best Original Song in a movie; it’s from “Act of Valor.” That Golden Globe — surprise, surprise — went to Adele for “Skyfall” from the James Bond film of the same name.
Jennifer was a presenter at the show.
Now, here are more photos of Katharine, Keith and Jennifer from the Golden Globes.
