We only heard half of the Austin auditions during Wednesday’s American Idol Season 13 premiere.
But one of the standout auditioners was definitely Savion Wright.
The 21-year-old student from Jasper, Texas, said he had waited eight years to try out for the show because he didn’t think he was creative enough.
Then he showed off his creativity by performing an orginal song called either “Dark Side of Me” or “Both Sides of Me.”
Regardless of the title, the judges were impressed and unanimously voted to send Savion to Hollywood.
On Twitter, Savion describes himself as a “story-teller, performer, multi-instrumentalist and lover of life. I also sing songs.” Judging from the photo there, he also plays the sax.
He’s also the contestant who told us music is his medicine. He suffers from attention deficit disorder.
You can hear lots more on Savion’s YouTube channel.
