With the black and white checked high heels with pink flowers on the side to match her jacket, Khristian D’avis might win the award for best audition shoes on American Idol.

But she nearly didn’t make it to Hollywood.

Keith Urban suggested the 22-year-old server from Chicago needs more time to develop her voice, and her Idol fate came down to “Hatchet” Harry Connick Jr.

He gave Khristian the vote she needed to advance to Hollywood, along with the advice that she needs to work on connecting authentically with the audience.

That prompted more tears than we’re used to from a successful auditioner.

“When Keith Urban said no, it got me kind of emotional, because I thought they were all going to say no after that,” Khristian explains in her Road to Hollywood video. “They didn’t. They had some positive things to say. And it was emotional. That’s it.”

Khristian is also the gal who showed up in the audition room with the Sicilian accent, then lost it once the critiquing started. The accent was back in her video, when she pointed to Pat Benetar, Beyonce, Grace Potter and the Italian singer Giorgia.

“I feel like I have a very different, unique voice,” says Khristian. “And performing wise, I’m very fun. Entertaining is about grasping the audience’s attention, and I feel that’s what I have.”

Khristian told the judges she performed in a band pre-Idol. She has also performed under the name Ivy Poise.

On Idol, she auditioned with Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love for You.” I’ve embedded a couple of other videos of Khristian singing below. If you’d like to hear more, head to this YouTube channel.

Pre-order Marina's new album

She has no connection to a singing show that I'm aware of, but I'm going to plug the new Marina and the Diamonds album anyway. Pre-orders are under way on various sites. In the meantime, here's an oldie, but goodie -- Mowgli's Road.
