Her audition: Sam Behymer, 25, of Morgan Mill, Texas, sang “Royals” for her audition on The Voice. She was barely into the second line of her performance when Adam Levine turned his chair. Usher joined him midway through Sam’s audition. Adam called her “a breath of fresh air.” And Usher praised her “quirky” sound. Sam decided to join Team Adam.
Her audition: Clarissa Serna, 27, of Corpus Christi, Texas, sang “Zombie” by The Cranberries for her audition on The Voice. Her gritty and haunting vocal enticed Adam Levine to turn around early in her performance. If anything, Clarissa got stronger as the performance continued, eventually getting all four chairs to spin. “I’m in a dream right now,” Clarissa proclaimed. Blake said he tried to stay out of it, but that Clarissa “beat him down” with her superb vocal.
Their audition: The Brothers Walker sang “Keep Me in Mind” by the Zac Brown Band for their audition on The Voice. The country tune caused Blake’s ears to perk up, but he didn’t turn his chair. Usher did, with a foot tap at the very end of their audition. “I know this is odd for you probably,” Usher said, upon realizing he’d landed a country duo. Responded Coty Walker: “Awesome would be the word I’d use.”
Her audition: Melissa Jimenez, 29, of Fort Lee, N.J., sang Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” for her audition on The Voice. She started off a cappella, displaying wonderful tone, then later sang part of the song in Spanish. No one turned around for that, but at the very end of the song, both Shakira and Usher did. Usher complimented her on the quality of her voice and she joined his team.
Her audition: Sisaundra Lewis, 44, of Orlando, Fla., sang Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way” for her audition on The Voice. And it was immediately clear she possesses one of the most powerful voices we’ve heard in Season 6. Shakira turned around early in the performance, followed by Adam. Eventually Blake Shelton and Usher did as well, giving Sisaundra one of those coveted four-chair turns. “I would buy your record if it came out tomorrow,” Blake said. Sisaundra joined Team Blake.
His audition: Patrick Thompson, 35, of Festus, Missouri, sang the Marshall Tucker Band’s “Can’t You See” for his audition on The Voice. He immediately displayed his gruff voice. Midway through the song, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine turned around in rapid succession. Adam called his performance “real grit.” And Patrick joined Team Adam.
Her audition: Audra McLaughlin, 21, of Philadelphia, Pa., auditioned for The Voice with “Angel from Montgomery.” She sounded great from the word go, prompting Adam Levine to turn around almost immediately. Her powerful, passionate vocals eventually enticed all three of the other coaches to follow. Shakira called her voice “out of this world,” but Audra joined Team Blake.
His audition: Ryan Whyte Maloney, 33, of Traverse City, Mich., auditioned for The Voice with Journey’s “Lights.” His strong opening and superb range prompted Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Shakira to turn their chairs early in his performance. They were eventually joined by Usher. Ryan decided to join Team Blake.
